QRPGuys K8TND Regenerative Receiver
This product has been discontinued
How better to explore the world of shortwave listening than with a regenerative receiver. The QRPGuys K8TND Regenerative Receiver covers the 60, 49, 41, 31, 25 meter shortwave bands (approximately 4.5 to 12.7 MHz), with a receiver you build complete from the supplied chassis pieces, electrical components, and hardware. You connect the receiver to a simple wire antenna, that can be a simple wire in the attic, or one thrown up in a tree.
Cliff Donley (K8TND) heavily modified a basic Kitchin design, with varactor tuning and toroid inductors. We incorporated Cliff’s design into a compact pcb chassis and with controls for Coarse Tuning, Fine Tuning, Regeneration control, and Volume. There is an attenuator that can be switched in at the antenna to prevent strong stations from overloading the input. The LM386 will drive inexpensive ear buds or a small speaker connected to the rear mounted 3.5mm audio jack. The chassis and component pcb are pre-cut and forms a sturdy assembly with the printed circuit board as an integral component of the completed unit. It is powered either by an on-board 9V battery or can use a 12V supply connected to the rear 2.1mm x 5.5mm pcb jack. All the electrical, chassis, and mechanical components are included in the kit with the exception of the battery, earbuds, and wire antenna. The receiver is 4.50″ wide x 3.00″ deep x 2.00″ high. On a difficulty scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the most difficult, this is rated at 2 to 3, depending on your experience.
